Bellville's municipal supply draws from two wells roughly 92 feet deep. The village monitors its supply and has worked to upgrade its wastewater infrastructure along the Clear Fork Mohican River, but well-sourced municipal water picks up minerals, sediment, and treatment chemicals that affect taste, odor, and long-term health.
Independent testing data from the Environmental Working Group shows disinfection byproducts including bromodichloromethane, a trihalomethane formed when chlorine reacts with organic matter during treatment, present in Bellville's supply. These compounds meet legal limits, but legal limits for many contaminants have not been updated in nearly 20 years.
